Banking Pai Gow Poker
PAI GOW DEALING PROCEDURES
After receiving a set of tiles, the dealer shall sort and inspect the tiles and the floor person assigned to the table shall verify the inspection.
Pai Gow Poker Banking Rules
Following the inspection, the tiles shall be turned face up, then placed into 16 pairs and arranged according to rank. The tiles shall be left in pairs for visual inspection by the first player to arrive at the game.
In pai gow poker there is much less consistency. I think players invoke the right to bank in that game so seldom that the dealers, and sometimes the floor, don't know what to do. Often the turn to bank won't rotate, but zig-zag between the dealer and the players. I've also seen it that if there is an empty seat, the turn reverts to the dealer. Player Banking If the player elects to bank they must first determine their bet against the entire table, as their hand will be compared in due against each player. Click here for Rules of Banking.
After the first player is afforded an opportunity to visually inspect the tiles, the tiles shall be turned face down on the table and shuffled.
The dealer shall call 'No More Bets' prior to shaking the Pai Gow shaker.
In order to determine the starting position delivery of stacks of tiles either procedure may be used:
- The banker shall shake the Pai Gow poker shaker and dice at least three times. The dealer shall then remove the lid, total the dice, and announce the total. To determine the starting position, the dealer shall count counter-clockwise around the table, with the position of the banker considered number one until the counts matches the total of the three dice.
- The dealer may use a computerized random number generator to select a display a number from 1 to 8, and verbally announce the number. To determine the starting position, the dealer shall counter-clockwise around the table, with the position of the banker considered number one until the count matches the number displayed by the random number generator.
If a player is banking, the player may not set the bank hand until after all the players have set their hands.
After all players have set their hands, the dealer shall arrange the dealer’s hand according to the house ways.
If a player is banking, the dealer will then compare the dealer’s hand to the player’s and determine the winner according to the rules of the game. If the player wins, the dealer will place the wager in the area for the player’s winning wagers and place the dealer’s tiles in the discard stack. If the player loses, the dealer will place the wager on top of the stacked dealer’s hand to be paid by the banker. If the hand is a push, the dealer will place the wager into the bankroll and place the tiles in the discard stack. The banker’s hand is then brought into the area in front of the dealer.
If a player is co-banking, the dealer will bring the players’ tiles into the center of the table and set the players’ hand using the house ways.
The dealer shall then expose the hand of each player, compare them with the bank’s hand and determine whether the hand wins or loses according to the rules of the game, starting from the right and proceeding counter-clockwise around the table.
The dealer shall immediately collect all losing wagers and tiles.
All winning hands shall remain face up on the layout. Winning hands shall be paid after all hands have been exposed.

If the player is co-banking and the player loses more money than wins, the dealer will collect one-half of the money lost from the player and the dealer shall pay the other half.
The dealer shall pay winning wagers starting at the dealer’s right and continuing counter-clockwise.
